Ms. Mary Alice Hoover

Hello Students, parents and guardians,

This school year I will be your Dean of Students. I have worked at Bexar County Academy for just over two years as the Title 1 Reading Teacher and now as the dean. This will be a challenging and memorable year as we face the COVID 19 pandemic together.  With health and safety practices in place and by wearing face masks and practicing social distancing, we should be fine. We are anxious for school to start so we can help you reach your academic goals.

I was born in San Antonio and have lived here most of my life. My father was a beloved teacher who taught me a lot about the art of teaching and about patriotism.  His guidance, his stories and his love of country have made me who I am today. I graduated from Incarnate Word High School, The University of Texas at Austin, (with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish. My secondary teacher’s certificate is also from UT). My Master’s degree is in English from the University of Texas at El Paso. My administrative certification (Principal Certificate) is from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Working with young people is something that I’ve always done and loved. Making a positive difference in a person’s life is what is important to me. Building self-confidence in children and bringing out the best in them can change their life and positively impact their future. I have worked successfully for over 30 years in education as a teacher, counselor, curriculum director, adult education supervisor, assistant principal, and high school principal. I have loved every job I have held and know I will feel the same about my current position at Bexar County Academy.  Together we can make a difference!
